私は英語についてはそれなりの自信を持っているつもりですが、語彙力、とくに熟語や慣用句、スラングなどは、はっきりいって弱いのです。若いとき、アメリカに１年間研究員として滞在している間も、Idiom辞典やSlang辞典などを買い込んで、勉強しようと思ったのですが、ほとんど身につかずに終わってしまいました。
退職後、やっと時間ができたので、熟語、慣用句、スラング、ことわざなどの英語力をスキルアップしようと思い、当分はPassword Protectedプラグインで鍵をかけた非公開の形で「スキルアップEnglish」というWordPressサイトを立ち上げたところです。問題は、どうやって、サイトを作りながら、これらの語彙力をアップできるようなページにできるかということです。
いろいろと考えた結果、以前このブログでも紹介した「Shortcodes Ultimate」というプラグインに入っている「タブ」を使えばいいのではないか、と思いつきました。例えば、次のようなタブです。それぞれのタブをクリックすると、隠れた部分が現われます。例文はいくつでも増やせます。

こんな感じで、AからZまで、ふだんよく使われているであろう熟語、成句、スラングのリストを作成していこうかと思っています。これだと、入力するときに覚えるし、タブを隠した状態で答えを当て、タブを開いて確認し、例文で再確認するという形で、記憶に焼き付けることができるのではないかと思うのです。
さて、この方法がどのくらい有効か、しばらくの間、続けていきたいと思います。
